Want to know Jesus?
So who is this Jesus anyway? While there has been much speculation about the person of Jesus, there is one thing that Christians know for certain: Jesus is the Son of God. A great teacher, yes. A great moral role model, absolutely. Christians believe, however, that the only way to have a relationship with God is through his only Son, Jesus. While Jesus did do many miracles while He was here on earth, the most important thing you need to know about Jesus is:
1. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, came to earth in the form of a man. He was fully God, but He was fully man as well.
2. Jesus’ mission was to die for the sins of humanity. The Bible says that all have sinned, and have come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
3. Since everybody comes short of God’s holy standard, the Bible says that you must pay for your sin. Jesus died so you would not have to die for your own sins. Jesus paid for them through His death on the cross. The Bible says that the wages for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus. (Romans 6:23) Salvation is a gift of God, not something to be earned. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
4.The only way to accept this free gift of salvation from God is to accept His Son, Jesus, into your heart and life. Jesus’ death on the cross has paved the way for you to have a relationship with God. The Bible says that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:9-10,13)
To begin a relationship with God, one must come to Him in prayer. Prayer is talking and listening to God. You can pray a prayer much like the one below, but, make no mistake, there is nothing magical about any words of a prayer. The content and sincerity of the heart defines the prayer, not the content of the words. You can use your own words, but it should be something like this:
Dear God, I come to you now, acknowledging to you that I am a sinner. There is nothing I can do on my own to have a relationship with you or have eternal life. I confess to you that Jesus is the Son of God. He is perfect in every way. He died on a cross for my sins, and now, after His resurrection 3 days later, sits on His throne in heaven. I invite Jesus into my life to become my Lord and my Savior of my soul, as well as my daily guide. I trust Jesus with my very life, as He has given His life for me. Thank you Jesus for dying for me and saving me. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
